There was a chaos on Tuesday in
Ibadan when a tanker belonging to NNPC carrying petroleum product caught fire
at Orogun junction along Iwo road, Ojoo expressway in Ibadan, the Oyo State.

the efforts of the Oyo State Fire Service to quench the fire was to no avail as they ran out of water as
the fire escalated beyond control.
The Director of
Fire Services in the state, Oyekunle Kareem, confirmed that four persons were
injured in the incident while eight shops were burnt and two SUV cars were
burnt to ashes by the inferno.
Those who were injured in the
incident have been taken to the hospital.
Another eye witness relayed her experience
that she was waiting for on a taxi on the other side of the road when the
incident occured. People started running away from the Nigeria National
Petroleum Corporation vehicle that was spilling fuel but some were not fast
enough to beat the fire. Efforts were made to push the burning vehicle away but
the effect of the heat made it impossible.
There was
traffic gridlock as the expressway was blocked, leaving only one lane for road
users plying the two lanes, as the Iwo road to Ojoo section, on which the
incident occurred, was totally blocked.
